Menard’s dates back to 1959 when John Menard, Jr. began building a post-frame building in order to finance his way through college. Later in that year he needed to take on extra crews in addition to needing to buy further equipment to keep abreast of increasing demand.

In 1962, he bought land in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on which to build an office and shop. That was how Menard’s was founded. In late 2006, Menard’s expanded into an 11th state with a store in Saint Joseph, Missouri, and added 2 further distribution centers. Its chief competitors are Lowe’s and Home Depot, which are slightly ahead in terms of sales.

Recently, Menard’s has plans to build a store and independent lumber shed that will be approximately 260,000 square feet in total. This will be used to build a mega-Menard’s home improvement center. This new center will be situated south of their current sales outlet and the separate lumber shed will be constructed nearby on the parking lot.

The expansion plans that Menard’s is suggesting follows 6 years after their competition established their own store nearby.
