Introduction to Area Rugs
The term area rugs is applied to carpets that cover a small area of a room as opposed to wall to wall carpet which covers the whole space. Examples of areas that these rugs fit well in are in front of the television, at the foot of the bed, under a dining room table, in the living room and most other areas in the home. Although these types of rugs are often found in offices and other places of work as well.
Most Common Materials For Area Rugs
Area rugs can be made from a variety of materials ranging from plant fibers, fabric, animal skins, and synthetic materials to wool and in a variety of colors and designs. The more common materials used are fabric, wool and plant fibers such as sisal or bamboo. However, the other materials are easy to come by too and there is so much choice you're sure to be able to find a discount area rug to suit your taste.
Individuals usually chose area rugs for specific spaces in their home or offices and often for a specific purpose such as brightening an otherwise dull room or to protect the floor underneath from scratches caused by tables and chairs. They can also be used for kids to sit comfortably upon of even lie down on whilst watching their favorite film, for example. When these rugs are to be used in children's rooms or play areas, they are usually brightly colored and have special designs on them such as trains, characters or animals which makes them especaially suitable. Black area rugs, for example, would be a poor choice, although at least they wouldn't show the dirt!
Choosing an Area Rug for a Particular Purpose
There are many considerations when choosing rugs for specific areas. The color and set up of the room should be considered so if you're looking for a carpet for stairs, for example, you would need to consider carpet runners rather than something round or square. Area rugs usually complement the room color as well as the floors and furniture that are around it. Some materials are better suited to more formal rooms and some materials slip and slide on highly polished floors.
Area rugs to be used for furniture placement need to have heavy duty non slip backing to prevent the furniture from being easily moved around. Those that are to be used for highly polished floors also need a sort of backing to prevent people from slipping when they step on the rugs.
Another space where you might be thinking off adding a carpet is outside your house, in the yard. When buying a patio rug you need to make sure it's one that's been made specially for the purpose. It needs to be weather proof, easily cleanable, and not susceptible to mildew or rotting.
All these things need to be taken into consideration before you make your purchase.
