Pool Vacuums

An automatic pool cleaner is similar to a household vacuum cleaner except it cleans the bottom and walls of your swimming pool by sucking up dirt and debris such as fallen leaves and insects. Pools using vacuum cleaners on a regular basis need a smaller amount of chemicals to keep the water clean and healthy and so cost less to maintain. They also look cleaner which is makes swimming a more pleasureable experience.
There are four main types of cleaners: Return-side driven, pressure driven, suction-side driven and electronic/Robotic. Depending on the type you choose you may need a dedicated pump to provide adequate flow to the cleaner. This is one of the reasons why the first 2 types mentioned have recently fallen out of favour with pool owners. An example of a Suction-side driven cleaner is the Kreepy Krauly pool cleaner and a good example of the latter type is the Aquabot Robotic Pool Cleaner.
The pool robot moves forwards and backwards through the use of wheels or tracks, which are driven by belts connected to the drive motor. Many of these vacuums have a third motor called a foot motor which presses down a rubber foot in order for it to turn and change direction. They operate using sensors located in the bump bars. When they bump into objects such as the walls the machine pauses and then the electronics restart the machine and reverse its direction.
Another option for keeping prices down is to buy a pool vacuum from an auction. See below for what is currently on offer or scroll down the page to view our selection of new, excellent value above ground pools for sale.
