Carpet For Stairs
There are 2 main types of stair carpet and, although they do the same job, a difference exists between that bought from a roll and a stair runner. The difference is mainly that the latter will have bound edges while carpet from a roll does not. These bound edges will make a runner a bit easier to install and if you have beautiful hardwood steps, part of that beauty can still be seen beyond the edges of the rug.
When choosing a runner to carpet your stairway, it is imperative that it is
long enough to cover all the steps. You don’t want to have a seam part-way up if
there is any way to avoid it, as it can wear unevenly or even come loose,
causing a safety hazard. Width is also important, so accurate measuring is a
must. The examples below are for stair runs of between 30 to 40 feet. For longer
lengths please visit the 45 to 50+ link below.

Carpet for stairs can also be created when bought from a roll. This is useful
if your want to have your stairway match your surrounding floor covering and you
could also have a smaller
runner rug cut, at
the same time, to go in your room. Most carpet stores have the means to bind
carpet edges to create a stair runner using the same carpet as in other areas of
the house.
If you decide to have the stairs carpeted like the adjacent areas, trim will
probably be needed on the edges as well as under each step to hold it firmly in
place. It’s also a good idea to make it known to your supplier that you intend
to do the stairs to match other rooms. They can then measure the steps as well
as the other areas and perhaps be able to cut the carpet for your entire order
in such a way as to make it less expensive.
Consider how you want your stairs to look, measure carefully or maybe, have a professional carpet installer measure it for you, and purchase a high quality rug, whether as a runner or carpet from a roll. This procedure will produce a stairway that is not only beautiful to look at but will stand up to many years of wear without losing it’s good looks.
